Realme has started teasing its next phone launch in India, just days before archrival Xiaomi is set to unveil its much-awaited Redmi Note 13 series in the country. Not long ago, the BBK spin-off brand had tried to steal Xiaomi’s thunder by announcing its Redmi 13C competitor 5G budget phone— Realme C67— a few hours before the Redmi launch. Feels like déjà vu, right?
Anyhow, Realme is kicking off the hype-train for its next phone, which as per rumour mills could be the Realme 12 Pro Plus, by teasing what’s set to be one of its big marquee features. The Realme phone, whatever it turns out to be, will be the first after the Realme X3 SuperZoom from 2020 to launch in India with a periscope telephoto camera. Realme has launched a phone called the Realme GT 5 Pro with a periscope camera in China recently but that is highly unlikely to launch elsewhere going by the history of these phones. But we’ll see.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) believes the upcoming phone is the Realme 12 Pro Plus and it will apparently launch by January end or sometime in February with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chip, most probably the 7s Gen 2, at the helm. Realme is yet to confirm the name of the product and so, we suggest you take this bit of information with a pinch of salt but if the tipster’s track record is anything to go by, the real deal shouldn’t be too far off. Anyway, with the marketing campaign beginning to take shape, we can expect more details to follow.

The Realme X3 SuperZoom was launched in India in 2020 with a periscope-style lens camera setup with 5x optical zoom capability at a starting price of Rs 27,999. It would be interesting to see how things pan out in the coming days.
