After suspected militants fired several rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) in the border town of Moreh in Manipur injuring three commandos, situation has remained tense, reported PTI.
The RPGs exploded inside the CDO outpost building at Moreh Turelwangma Leikai where the commandos were staying, according to officials. Multiple police vehicles were also damaged during the attack.
Six suspected militants were injured in retaliatory firing, according to police, however, fatalities were not confirmed.
In another development, a village volunteer, identified as C Lamyanba, was injured in a gunfight between two groups at Tabungkhok area in Imphal East district in the wee hours of Sunday, according to police. He was guarding the village when the gunfight broke.
On Saturday, 35-year-old Jamesbond Nongombam, a village volunteer in Imphal West district was killed on Saturday after a gunfight with unidentified gunmen. The incident took place in Kadangband area, which borders the Kuki Zo-dominated Kangpokpi district, one of the areas affected by the ethnic violence since May 3, reported The Indian Express.
In another news, police on Friday arrested editor of vernacular daily Kangleipaki Meira, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, for allegedly publishing provocative news. The journalist has been booked under sections of intent to cause a riot, and to outrage religious sentiment.
He was arrested based on suo motu action by the officer in-charge of Imphal police station. Earlier, Manipur BJP vice president Laishram Meenabanta Singh had filed a complaint accusing the newspaper of instigating hate.
