Bank Holidays January 2024: With the start of another year, here is looking at the dates of the January 2023 bank holidays across regions. Bank holidays will differ from state to state and in January 2024, banks will be closed for 16 days including second, fourth Saturdays, Sundays and other regional holidays. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has placed the holidays under three brackets: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act; Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. The RBI in 2015, had announced that both private and PSU banks in India would remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. While on other Saturdays, banks will stay operational full-day. Banks across the country remain closed on Sundays.

January 2 (Tuesday) – New Year’s Celebration: Banks will remain closed in Aizawl on January 2.
January 11 (Thursday) – Missionary Day: Banks will be closed on January 11 in Aizawl.
January 12 (Friday) – Birth Day of Swami Vivekananda: Banks will be closed in Kolkata.
January 15 (Monday) – Uttarayana Punyakala/Makara Sankranti Festival/Maghe Sankranti/Pongal/Magh Bihu: Banks will be closed on January 15 in Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad – Andhra Pradesh, and Hyderabad – Telangana.
January 16 (Tuesday) – Thiruvalluvar Day: Banks will be closed in Chennai.
January 17 (Wednesday) – Uzhavar Thirunal/Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Birthday: Banks to stay shut in Chandigarh and Chennai.
January 22 (Monday) – Imoinu Iratpa: Banks are closed in Imphal.
January 23 (Tuesday) – Gaan-Ngai/Netaji’s Birth Day: Banks are closed in Imphal and Kolkata.
January 25 (Thursday) – Thai Poosam/Birthday of Md. Hazarat Ali: Banks are closed in Chennai, Kanpur and Lucknow.
January 26 (Friday)- Republic Day: Banks are closed in all the states.
