Snow clad: Joshimath receives fresh snowfall amid land subsidence crisis – Pics

Amid the worrying situation of land subsidence, there were some happy moments for the people of Joshimath city in Uttarakhand, on Thursday. The city received fresh snowfall.Rains lashed Joshimath overnight and were followed by a spell of snowfall, said officials, reported news agency PTIJoshimath is located at around 6,000 feet. Many other famous locations in the higher altitudes of Chamoli district, including Hemkund Sahib, Badrinath,  Nanda Devi National Park, and the Valley of Flowers, also received snowfall.However, this also intensified the cold and added to the woes of those people who are living in temporary relief camps.Nearly 800 plus houses in Joshimath have developed cracks following land subsidence. 258 families have been evacuated to temporary relief centres, said officials, reported the news agency. The dismantling of unsafe hotels and private houses continues amid the challenging weather. As a result of snowfall in the mountains, icy winds swept across the plains of the Uttarakhand state of India.
