Oppo Reno 7 series was launched in India on Friday, 4th February 2022. There are two models to boot: Reno 7 Pro 5G and Reno 7 5G. They’re coming nearly six months after their predecessors, the Reno 6 Pro 5G and Reno 6 5G. There are new designs to talk about, new cameras, too. The biggest upgrades, expectedly, have been reserved for the pro model. The Reno 7 is more iterative, in comparison. All in all, Oppo seems to have worked on refining the Reno series, which is to say, the Reno 7 Pro and Reno 7 are evolutionary products. That’s not a bad thing at all, but competition is fierce, today, and it would be interesting to see how things pan out for Oppo’s new premium mid-rangers in the days to come. Design is marquee for most Oppo phones. The Reno has always laid great emphasis on looks and feel. Years after chasing the “borderless” dream, Oppo is finally giving its pro Reno phone, a major makeover. It no longer has a curved screen. The Reno 7 Pro, instead, borrows from the latest iPhones to give you an all-out flat rectangular slab of a phone. It’s fairly compact and made from premium materials, too. The Reno 7 is curvier in comparison, though, still not as much as previous Reno phones—the screen is somewhat flat, here as well. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

The Reno 7 Pro is made of glass and metal. The Reno 7, glass and plastic. Both phones are made using Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) technology which in simple terms means, the glass back panel has fine grainy textures that you can also make out visually especially in the blue variant of the phones that we have for review. They’ll also come in black. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

The Reno 7 Pro’s back camera system is two-step with metal at the top and ceramic on the lower end. The whole module is raised, which is to say, there’s an evident camera bump but Oppo is sort of owning it with a party trick that’s exclusive to this phone. The whole bottom end of the camera setup is surrounded by a breathing light strip that glows when you receive a phone call, message, and during charging. Obviously, you will need to keep your phone screen facing down to be able to see it, something that could be polarising. The Reno 7 has what you can call a more watered-down module, we’ve seen to death in many Oppo/Realme phones, without any fancy lighting whatsoever. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

The Reno 7 Pro has a 50MP main (Sony IMX766), 8MP ultrawide-angle, and 2MP macro camera. On the front, it has a 32MP (Sony IMX709) camera. The Reno 7 has a 64MP main, 8MP ultrawide-angle, and 2MP macro camera. On the front, it also has a 32MP camera, but the sensor is unspecified. Oppo is again highlighting its video prowess here with features like Bokeh Flare Portrait Video and cinematic bokeh flare effects in portraits AI chops. The Reno 7 has a 6.4-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and hole punch cut-out. Both phones have a 180Hz touch sampling rate. The pro model’s display can intelligently increase the touch sampling rate to up to 1000Hz in supported games (this works in League of Legends Mobile only at the time of writing). Biometrics are handled by an in-screen fingerprint reader in both phones. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

The Reno 7 Pro is powered by a “customised” version of MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200 that Oppo is calling Dimensity 1200-Max. Oppo says it has worked with MediaTek on this chip to enhance the phone’s display (to bring improved colour and contrast to HDR content) and camera output (to reduce blur in images shot with the front camera). The Reno 7 has a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chip, same as the Reno 6 before it. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

The Reno 7 Pro comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS3.1 storage. The Reno 7 has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
